About Alexander Hertel-Fernandez
Alexander Hertel-Fernandez researches health policy, Social Security, and social insurance reform at the Economic Policy Institute. He has also served as Senior Fellow for Social Insurance for the Roosevelt Institution and was the recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship. Before coming to Washington, he worked as a researcher at the World Health Organization investigating socioeconomic disparities in health policy in Latin America. His research on public health and social insurance reform has been published in Social Policy & Administration, the Bulletin of the World Health Organization, and Health Affairs.
Hertel-Fernandez serves on the advisory committee of Young People First, where he works on the creation of a new index to measure the effect of public policy on future generational well-being, and on the board of the New Deal Association. He is a graduate of Northwestern University.
When not policy wonking, he enjoys traveling and running (err, attempting to run) road races.
